Why did you become a seminarian?
Admittedly, when I initially felt the call to priesthood, and as I discerned that call, I struggled to accept it. I feared pursuing the priesthood for my own pride, or my own glory, because I felt unworthy, or because I thought it was not what I wanted. As I have entered more deeply into the spiritual life and discerned this calling I’ve come to understand how beautiful this call can be, and I have prayed to align my will with that of the Lord that I may be open to His call. After a time of discernment, I feel that God invited me to explore priesthood, and that I cannot continue to make progress discerning without entering the seminary. There is a part of me that desires to administer the Sacraments, to be a spiritual father to God’s people, to bring people to the Lord, and to live a life of prayer. Above all, I want to become a priest because I believe that is what God wants for me, and after the many highs and lows of my life, I am at peace with pursuing God’s call. I know that only abiding His will for my life can I experience the greatest possible joy in this life while trying to attain the next life in heaven.
Before you entered the seminary, what were you doing?
I was a full-time graduate student at Eastern Illinois University pursuing my Master’s Degree in College Student Affairs. I also worked as a Graduate Assistant in the university’s Office of Admissions.
